Leon Richard Pettit

A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Leon Richard Pettit, 80, of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home March 3, 2015 with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born November 3, 1934 in Big Rapids, Michigan and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1953. After graduation, he married the love of his life, Janice, and worked for Pettit Sales and Service. He also served as a sergeant in the Michigan National Guard.

In 1962, Leon moved to Owosso to work for Owosso Graphic Arts as a photo engraver.  He retired after 35 years of service. Leon loved golf and was a past member of the Owosso Country Club and a current member of Seven Springs Golf and Country Club. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, traveling, camping, and working on and fixing cars and other motorized items. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Owosso, and most recently Asbury Methodist Church in New Port Richey FL where he served as a trustee.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janice (Clarady) Pettit of New Port Richey; two daughters Cynthia Null (Michael) of Elmira, Michigan and Kathryn Erickson (Mark) of Owosso, Michigan; four grandchildren Stephanie Null Samulak, (Shannon) of Stockbridge, Michigan, Jason Null (Sarah) of Kalkaska, Michigan, Sarah Scoby (Paul) of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and Mary Wagner (Brandon) of Owosso, Michigan; and eight great-grandchildren Kirsten, Kaylee, Christian, Nikki, Abigail, Brenton, Anna, and Kyler; and one sister Lois Lutzke of Big Rapids, Michigan.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Harold, Carl, and Jack along with his parents, Walter and Myrtle Pettit.

Cremation has taken place.  Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2015, at Asbury United Methodist Church, New Port Richey, Florida and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Owosso Wesleyan Church, Owosso, Michigan.
