John N. Stokley, Jr., 85, of Punta Gorda, Fla., passed away peacefully on Friday, Mar. 27, 2018, at Douglas T. Jacobson Veteran’s Home in the care of Hospice after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
John, originally from Clayton NJ, owned and operated a trucking company until 1989. He then retired and relocated to Florida with his wife Emma, daughter Meredith, brother Bill and sister-in-law Dorothy. John was a fun-loving man with a heart as big as his smile and a generosity as contagious as his laughter. He was a great provider and gave to family and loved ones without hesitation. He was often the orchestrator of the most memorable gatherings with family, friends, and loved ones. John loved fishing in Cape May as well as in Punta Gorda, snow skiing in the Poconos, the Philadelphia Phillies, and traveling. He had a passion for interacting with all people and experiencing new foods and always welcomed all who wanted to join.
John is survived by his son, John N. Stokley III and his wife Peggy Stokley of Ocala, Fla. and daughter, Meredith E. Stokley of Punta Gorda, Fla., as well as numerous others he profoundly affected with his kindness and laughter.
Services is open for all family and friends at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 on Friday, May 11, 2018.
