Obituary For John Henry Gau

John Henry Gau, passed away peacefully on November 22, 2022 at the age of 80, at his residence in Trinity, FL. The middle child of three siblings, he was born in Queens, NY, and grew up in Massapequa, NY. John, a military veteran, was drafted into the Army in 1964 and served 2 years stationed in Germany. He married in 1967 and is survived by his wife of 55 years, his 2 sons, and his older sister. John, a career salesman, fully retiring in the late 90’s, was a hard worker and never hesitated to take on a do-it-yourself project at home to fix something or complete a home improvement. If you needed a tool he’d have it, always wanting to be prepared in the event he ever needed to repair or install something. He was always looking out for his family, hence why he was always prepared for the “what if”. In his early 20’s, John was into cars and fixing them up, with the occasional car race here and there; enjoyed coaching soccer back on Long Island in the 80’s, taking his family fishing and boating after he hung up his whistle, and just enjoying the simple pleasures of life and family back in Massapequa, and then during his remaining years after relocating to Florida in 2015. In his final years, like most men, he loved his TV, and was truly the keeper of the “clicker”. You didn’t dare mess with the station or touch the remote! His family will always remember him for his simple ways, and although he was not overly affectionate and verbal, they know he expressed it in others ways and always knew they were loved.

The morning my nephew called to inform me of my brother's passing brought back memories of the fun times we shared as youngsters at our first home in East Elmhurst New York. John lives on if only in my mind.
