Obituary For Michael Greg Merrill

Michael Greg Merrill, 77, of Palm Harbor, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024.

Originally from Portage, IN, Greg was born on August 27, 1946 to Monita “Pat” Merrill (nee Thompson) and William O. Merrill. A proud 1964 graduate of Portage High School, Greg served in the United States Army in Germany and settled in California, enjoying the Golden State for over 50 years. He worked in the Banking Industry for many years, and became a Certified Nursing Assistant, caring for those in need. Greg was an avid movie buff, and also enjoyed attending a good game of baseball. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when friends & family had projects. Using his dry, obtuse sense of humor, Greg created memories for those who knew him. One would usually never forget a trip to the zoo, an amusement park or family function when he was attending!

Greg is survived by his siblings: Bill (Carol) Merrill, Rose Wade, Dan (Barbara) Merrill, as well as his “Brother from another Mother” Dave (Linda) Van Wormer; Nieces and Nephews: Scott Bardusk, Aaron & Andrew Wade, and Kelly & Colleen Merrill, as well as many cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Monita Merrill, as well as his brother in law, Glenn Wade.

Private services will be held at a later date. In honor of Greg’s memory, those wishing may make a donation to their local Meals on Wheels or other Health care organization.

I worked with Greg in CA in the 1980's where he was a loan officer. He was always a very kind, funny guy who would bring a smile to your face! When I left the bank to start a family he made the cake for my baby shower! A very sweet man, he will be missed.

Greg, will be truly missed by all that knew him, Greg and I were grade school friends. Though I've haven't seen him since the mid-80's he will always be my friend. One time in my later years in Portage, I was working on my Model T and the engine fell and trapped my hand, working by myself how am I going to get out of this, about 3 min later Greg just stopped by and set me free. Somebody must have been talking to him. Also remember his folks were the only ones I knew with a color TV in the mid-50's there were only a couple shows that were in color by they could watch them. I remember him mom too, she was usually the room mother when we were going thru grade school at Garyton. RIP ol' buddy
